Leadership
is Earned

Student leaders must be classified as a sophomore or higher with at least one full year of experience in the program, and must hold a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better.

Honorary band organizations

Kappa Kappa Psi
& Tau Beta Sigma

Two national honorary organizations serve the JCSU band program — a fraternity and a sorority whose whole purpose is the advancement of college bands and the students who march in them.

Kappa Kappa Psi · National Honorary Band Fraternity, Inc. Theta Mu Chapter Rechartered at Johnson C. Smith University in March 2026 — motto: “Strive for the Highest”
Tau Beta Sigma · National Honorary Band Sorority, Inc. Eta Omicron Chapter A United Greek Council organization at Johnson C. Smith University — motto: “For Greater Bands”

What They Do

  • Service to the band program and its directors
